Jarrow is a popular town located on the south bank The River Tyne about six miles inland from the coastal town of South Shields and roughly eight miles from Gateshead and Newcastle City where a wealth of amenities, leisure facilities, wide range of shops and shopping malls can be found together with pubs and a bustling nightlight.

Education

If finding the right school is at the top of your agenda then you won't have to look too far with a range of local primary schools and Jarrow School (the former Grammar School then Springfield) to become what it is today, situated on Field Terrace. A little further away is South Tyneside College, Gateshead College and of course, Newcastle Universities.

Local History

Jarrow was primarily a Ship building town with the main employer being Charles Palmer who founded a Shipyard in 1852. After the closure of this, Ellen Wilkinson a Member of Parliament led the Jarrow March to London in 1936 to highlight the lack of jobs and employment and petition the Government and her statue can be seen at the entrance to the shopping precinct near Morrisons Supermarket.
